Destruction of the Field

Enzo Cillo

Destruction of the Field is a work about the disappearance of every knowable element, the deconstruction of a visual field, and a reflection on the relationship between body, space, and light. Light, by interacting with a second body – that of the technological device – reveals the intrinsic characteristics of the medium, bringing the digital mechanics, the sensor, and the flickering back into view. It is the light that acts within the boundary field of the device's body, "between" the inside and the outside. This perspective led me to reconsider the very concept of image space, freeing it from iconographic superstructures, from the image anchored to the knowable and to static and material connotations. It is an iconoclastic process, an abstraction, aimed at liberating the visual space from established assumptions and recognizable elements. It is a work of removing both signifier and meaning, on the concept of the image in the era of the liquid society.
