Pandemic Bloomz. Digital life forms. Mpeg4 animated Video with sound by ValUme 12 animated gifs for metaverse installation
Pandemic Bloomz are digital life forms inspired by nature, assuming the form of nature and merging with nature through recorded intimate encounters. The Bloomz initially emerged as interactive web animations, transformed into glitched digital video sequences, and evolved into interactive Augmented Reality animated filters. When placed in the real environment through a mobile device, the animated creature is activated by touch: it can be moved, rotated, and resized while consistently convulsing, blinking, and gesturing. The Bloomz became my digital prosthetics, manifesting survival, struggle, mothering; exploding into a multitude of cuddles and kisses, growing extra limbs, morphed bodies plunging out of flower forms, intimately engaging with nature, and mimicking subtle gestures of floral expressions, helping to assert the continuation of livelihood. Pandemic Bloomz are trapped in the Spark AR Player software on my iPad. They failed to be released for communal use on Instagram, as they were rejected by IG bots for their "adult content," based on their manifesting presence of exposure of feminine gender characteristics, mainly nipples... This failure serves as a manifestation of their livelihood, their secret power, and feared desirability. To assume vitality, Bloomz need to be performed and recorded through an iPad. The pandemic made me realize the fragility, permeability, and material nature of the concept of time. Energy flows, transcending time into materiality, expanding and encapsulating the precious and rapid instances of bloom. Bloomz performances are meant to be as ephemeral and short as the condition of blooming/blossoming itself. Recordings can be shared on social media or exported as stand-alone videos, posted/shared on the web, or exhibited as video paintings. Bloomz can also find a perfect home in the metaverse as an installation of animated gifs.
