Navigating A Computation of Cunning


What would a model of computational cunning look like? In a self-conscious bid to humanize AI, it would seem Deep Learning engineers are, now, prompting a sort of textual deepfake algo without any sort of known rationale.


Lore has it that, if we were ever to come face-to-face with our double it would mean immediate death. The encounter with the double, the specular image come alive, has always haunted the imagination. Are we making artificial intelligences in the image of humankind or is artifice of intelligence, perhaps augmented by cunning, remaking self-confident presumptions of selfsame humanness? Perhaps we have been deluded in thinking the former is the case.


Freud thought the uncanny a lost object of the familiar which loops back to us, terrifyingly so, like a boomerang we’d forgotten we had once thrown, only to now curl back from an odd direction, and, while still bearing a stark resemblance the same object, now, smacks of menacing foreignness, ever so slightly.
