About 12 seconds, monoprint on paper
I have been creating overlaid images and patterns based on the heart rates of different beings as an exploration of perception of both time and well being. Each series of forms represent a heart rate at rest. Represented in this collective image are a chickadee, an eagle, a spider, a whale, and a Galapagos tortoise. I am working by hand as I feel the best way to experience empathy for other beings is to first understand your own body and scale of perception, to move with your own currents. I also felt that each mark should be affected by all the regular interruptions of pace and pattern of natural movement. Even at rest the heart is not a metronome, but constantly responsive.
As these patterns are combined they create a map like image, each separate moment in time radiates to another.

For effective music practice, especially when working on rhythm and timing, a metronome is indispensable. An online option like the one at MetronomeOnline.org to set BPM means you always have one at your fingertips. You can easily adjust the tempo to practice slowly and accurately, then gradually increase it as you become more comfortable. Many also allow you to select different subdivisions or accents, which can be helpful for more complex rhythmic work. It’s a simple yet powerful tool for musicians of all levels.
